Loãng xương không có các dấu hiệu nhận biết rõ ràng ở giai đoạn sớm, thường chỉ nhận biết khi mức độ bệnh đã nặng. 

Tuy nhiên, khi bệnh tiến triển, người bệnh có thể xuất hiện một số dấu hiệu sau: 

  • Đau xương: Người mắc loãng xương có thể cảm thấy đau lưng, đau đầu gối, nhức xương khớp…
  • Gãy xương: Khi bị gãy xương dù va chạm nhẹ có thể là biểu hiện của bệnh loãng xương. 
  • Giảm chiều cao: Mật độ xương trong cột sống giảm khiến người bệnh giảm dần chiều cao. 
  • Khó chịu và mệt mỏi thường xuyên: Một số người mắc loãng xương thường cảm thấy mệt mỏi, khó tập trung, mất ngủ. Tuy nhiên, dấu hiệu này thường bị nhầm với các bệnh khác.

Nguyên nhân gây bệnh loãng xương

Có nhiều nguyên nhân dẫn đến bệnh loãng xương, nhưng phổ biến là các nguyên nhân sau: 

  • Tuổi tác: Tuổi tác là nguyên nhân chính gây ra loãng xương. Khi còn trẻ, cơ thể liên tục tạo ra xương mới khiến khối lượng xương tăng lên. Nhưng khi về già, quá trình này diễn ra chậm, khối lượng xương mất nhanh hơn xương tái tạo. Từ đó, mật độ xương giảm gây ra bệnh loãng xương. 
  • Giới tính: Phụ nữ có nguy cơ mắc loãng xương cao hơn so với nam giới. Điều này là do sự suy giảm estrogen trong cơ thể phụ nữ sau khi mãn kinh. 
  • Thiếu canxi và vitamin D: Canxi và vitamin D là hai chất quan trọng với sức khỏe hệ xương. Thiếu hụt hai chất này khiến khả năng hấp thu canxi của cơ thể giảm, từ đó làm tăng nguy cơ mắc loãng xương. 
  • Sử dụng một số loại thuốc điều trị: Một số thuốc như corticosteroid có thể gây loãng xương ở người sử dụng. 
  • Di truyền: Đây cũng là một trong những yếu tố dẫn đến loãng xương. Nếu trong gia đình có người thân mắc bệnh loãng xương, bạn có khả năng cao sẽ bị mắc bệnh. 
  • Thói quen sinh hoạt: Những người lười vận động, sử dụng chất kích thích như rượu, bia, thuốc lá thường xuyên có nguy cơ mắc loãng xương cao hơn bình thường.

Phân loại loãng xương

Bệnh loãng xương được phân loại dựa theo nguyên nhân gây bệnh. Hiện nay, loãng xương được chia thành 2 loại là loãng xương nguyên phát và loãng xương thứ phát. 

  • Loãng xương nguyên phát: Các trường hợp bệnh liên quan trực tiếp đến tuổi tác, hiện tượng mãn kinh, lão hóa của cơ thể con người. 
  • Loãng xương thứ phát: Thường liên quan trực tiếp đến các bệnh mãn tính hoặc thói quen sinh hoạt hàng ngày. 

Phương pháp chẩn đoán bệnh loãng xương

Hiện nay, tại các bệnh viện, cơ sở y tế để chẩn đoán loãng xương có 2 phương pháp chính là đo loãng xương và xét nghiệm máu, nước tiểu.

Đo loãng xương hay đo mật độ xương là phương pháp dùng tia X năng lượng kép hoặc chụp CT để xác định hàm lượng canxi và chất khoáng trong xương. Phương pháp này được thực hiện để phát hiện các vấn đề về loãng xương, mất xương.

Điều trị bằng thuốc

Người bệnh loãng xương cần bổ sung khoảng 1000-1200mg canxi mỗi ngày và 800-1000 IU/ngày. Ngoài ra còn sử dụng thêm một số loại thuốc sau: 

  • Alendronate 
  • Zoledronic acid
  • Calcitonin
  • Estrogen (SERM), Raloxifene (Evista) 
  • Strontium ranelate (Protelos)
  • Deca-Durabolin và Durabolin

Điều trị không thuốc

  • Bổ sung các loại thực phẩm giàu canxi và vitamin D trong bữa ăn hàng ngày. Hạn chế sử dụng chất kích thích như rượu, bia, thuốc lá…

  • Không sử dụng các chất kích thích như rượu, bia, thuốc lá
  • Khi xuất hiện các dấu hiệu về loãng xương cần đi khám bác sĩ để được điều trị kịp thời
  • Hạn chế sử dụng các thuốc giảm đau, chống viêm, corticoid vì các thuốc này có thể tăng nguy cơ mắc loãng xương
